USA v Brazil Confederations Cup Final Match Preview
The party can be on again for Samba dancers, at least until Sunday evening, as Brazil dramatically managed to reach the final of the Confederations Cup tournament! The South American champions will meet CONCACAF’s 2007 Gold Cup winners in a repeat of Brazil’s second round clash in this tournament.
Defending Champions Brazil to defend the cup against stunning USA
It is unbelievable how a single touch can change the fortune of a club positively. That is what happened on Thursday night when Daniel Alves 89th minute free-kick came at the rescue of the former World Champions who looked exhausted and embarrassed by a brave South African side.
Brazil didn’t play their free flowing passing game spiced up with teasing balls, tricks and flicks, but in the end, they managed to reach the final of the Confederations Cup tournament. 1-0 was enough to see out the hosts and to have the opportunity of defending their crown.
However, facing the USA in the final may not be the sweetest relief. Despite losing 3-0 to Brazil in the second round of the tournament, the USA have managed to lift their image by miraculously qualifying to the quarterfinals before ousting favorites Spain to reach the final stage.
It tells that Brazil will not have to take anything for granted when they come up against the Yankees. Bob Bradley has slowly put up a side that combines unity, hard work, and belief. The USA’s strength mainly comes on the offensive. Technically, the Yankees’ backline is very good. It is made of defenders like Demerit who can contain the likes of the biggest start names in football like Fernando Torres.
On the other hand, the Brazilians appeared to be exhausted and embarrassed during their semifinal game against South Africa. Carlos Dunga will perhaps struggle to have his biggest assets fresh for the final encounter; three days may not be enough for the Brazilian team to recuperate from fatigue.
The USA could take advantage of this factor, if really Brazil show signs of imperfection in the first moments of the game. After comprehensively losing 3-0 in earlier in the tournament, the CONCACAF Gold Cup champions will be out for revenge against the five-time World Champion.
However, one man who will not be able to help the USA in the final is Michael Bradley. The player – who netted a vital goal against Egypt – was shown a straight red card for a foul on Xavi in the latter stages of the match. How crucial will the absence of the son’s coach be to the Americans?
