Stoke City's Dean Whitehead faces the club he left in the summer as the Potters and Sunderland look to continue their solid starts to the season.

Stoke's new signing Robert Huth will go straight into the squad for Saturday's visit of Sunderland.

Huth could even start in central defence if Ryan Shawcross, who has been struggling with his latest bout of growing pains, fails a late fitness check.

James Beattie should be fit to return in attack after recovering from the knee injury which forced his early withdrawal at Birmingham City last Saturday.

Stoke manager Tony Pulis is certain to revert to his full strength team after making 11 changes for Tuesday's Carling Cup victory at Leyton Orient.

Sunderland defender Danny Collins is not expected to be included in the squad as the Potters attempt to sign him.

But keeper Craig Gordon could retain his place in the starting line-up after returning from knee surgery in Monday night's 4-1 Carling Cup win at Norwich City with Marton Fulop struggling with a heel problem.

Fraizer Campbell was left battered and bruised by his collision with Canaries' keeper Ben Alnwick, but is expected to be fit, while midfielder Andy Reid, who scored twice, was one of several men to impress Steve Bruce after he rested nine of his key men.

squads

Stoke: Sorensen, Wilkinson, Shawcross, Abdoulaye Faye, Higginbotham, Lawrence, Whitehead, Delap, Whelan, Etherington, Beattie, Fuller, Huth, Simonsen, Kitson, Cresswell, Pugh, Griffin, Cort, Amdy Faye.

Sunderland: Fulop, Gordon, Carson, Bardsley, Ferdinand, Nosworthy, Da Silva, McCartney, Cana, Cattermole, Richardson, Reid, Malbranque, Leadbitter, Henderson, Tainio, Edwards, Bent, Jones, Campbell, Healy.

Story:

Wolverhampton Wanderers and Hull City have both won one match this season and will be confident of adding to that total when they face off at Molineux.

Wolves are set to be boosted by the return of full-back Stephen Ward and the versatile Greg Halford.

Ward (knee) and Halford (calf) were injured at Manchester City last weekend but should be available to tackle Hull.

While they bid to return, the comeback hopes of Sylvan Ebanks-Blake hang in the balance. The striker, who damaged his hamstring in the opening match of the season against West Ham United, made a low-key return to training this week but looks unlikely to be risked.

However, right-back Kevin Foley is still sidelined by a medial knee ligament injury.

Phil Brown is set to recall a host of first team players after making 11 changes to the side for the Carling Cup win over Southend United on Tuesday.

Paul McShane is unlikely to be fit enough to make his debut for the club even if his move from Sunderland is tied up in time.

Record signing Jimmy Bullard is still sidelined, as is club captain Ian Ashbee, Dean Marney and Richard Garcia.

squads

Wolves: Hennessey, Hahnemann, Ikeme, Stearman, Berra, Craddock, Mancienne, Zubar, Ward, Elokobi, Hill, Halford, Surman, Henry, Milijas, Jones, Jarvis, Edwards, Keogh, Vokes, Doyle.

Hull: Myhill, Mouyokolo, Gardner, Turner, Dawson, Mendy, Olofinjana, Hunt, Boateng, Folan, Barmby, Ghilas, Geovanni, Zayatte, Cousin, Halmosi, Doyle, Kilbane, Altidore, Fagan, Duke.

Arsenal

Arsenal

Arsenal
are attempting to make it into the top four this season to guarantee a Champions League spot for next year. They slipped to fifth at one point last year, but have come out with guns blazing after demolishing Everton 6-1 at Goodison Park in the season opener.

The Gunners also beat Celtic 2-0 away on Tuesday (Aug 16) to take a stranglehold in their Champions League qualifying leg. That’s eight goals in two away games to start the season.

New signing Thomas Vermaelen of Belgium has looked impressive at centre back in the first two games and Alex song has been a tower of power in the midfield.

Portsmouth

Portsmouth

Portsmouth are a team in disarray at the moment with an unsteady ownership, and it’s showing on the pitch after opening the season with a pair of 1-0 losses at home to Fulham and away to Birmingham, which was on a last-minute penalty. Pompey are sitting third from bottom after two games after placing 14th last season.

Top forward Kanu has signed a month-long deal while 37-year-old goalkeeper Antti Niemi has rejoined the club. Belgian midfielder Anthony Vanden Borre has signed on loan to help out, but the loss of Peter Crouch and Glen Johnson has weakened the team though. Hermann Hreidarsson and Steve Finnan are questionable because of hamstring injuries.

Prediction

In last season’s matches, the Arsenal vs Portsmouth fixture ended with a 1-0 Arsenal win, whilst the Gunners thumped Pompey 3-0 down south at Fratton Park.

On paper and going by present form, it looks like Portsmouth is in for a good hiding when they travel north to London on Saturday. It’s Arsenal’s home opener and they are going to want to put on an attacking display for their supporters.

If Portsmouth plays only one striker and invite Arsenal to attack them it’s may prove suicidal for them, and so the question here is probably isn’t going to be who’s going to win, but by how many.

Look for Arsenal to make it three in a row over lowly Portsmouth, who haven't scored an away goal in ages.

Arsenal vs Portsmouth Prediction: Arsenal 4 – Portsmouth 0

Manchester City have spent 10 years in the Premier League since its inception in 1992. In the 2002/03 season, they became one of only two English teams to have qualified for the UEFA Cup through the 'Fair Play ranking'. This meant that the plush new City of Manchester Stadium was treated to European football just weeks after opening for the start of the following campaign.

Kevin Keegan and then Stuart Pearce, established the club in the Premier League, and under the latter, they finished in 14th place in the 2006/07 season. He was replaced by Sven-Goran Eriksson who guided the club to a ninth place finish in the 2007/08 campaign. City also secured UEFA Cup football via the 'Fair Play ranking' for a second time.

Wolverhampton Wanderers will ply their trade in the Premier League for the second time in the 2009/10 season, after winning the Championship title under manager Mick McCarthy.

Their return to the top-flight was confirmed after top goalscorer Sylvan Ebanks-Blake netted the only goal of the match at home to Queens Park Rangers on 18th April 2009. A week later their status as league winners was decided with a 1-1 draw against Barnsley.

Wolves' first spell in the Premier League came in the 2003/04 season, after they won promotion via the play-offs. A disappointing season ended in relegation, as the Midlands side finished bottom of the table with 33 points.
